Current Winter Paintings
This winter I have been in a bit of a funk in my art. I think all artists go through spells where they are unsure of their art. Sometimes you feel like you go through an identity crisis with your art and nothing seems right. That’s kind of been what I have been going through.
I’ve been on a quest to kind of narrow down my style as and artist in order to have more focus in my art business. Currently I do too many different things and am not focused on any of it at times. I think if I can kind of narrow things down I will hopefully be more focused in the future and can get to work instead of jumping from one thing to the next.
So while I am working through that I thought I would show you what I am working on currently. There’s two different ways I love to work. One is drawing in pencil and adding watercolor on top. This gives a nice vintage art style like old children’s books that I love. So here’s some samples of work I’ve done in 2026 with that medium.
“Don’t Forget Your Prayers”
This one titled “Don’t Forget Your Prayers” was made remembering those sweet bedtimes when my children were young. We would go through the whole nighttime routine of baths, pajamas, stories, and always always bedtime prayers. Something about those sweet little voices gentle in the night speaking their heart out to God will always make me smile.
“The Magic of Snowfall”
In this painting we had just had our first big snowstorm of this year. I am an absolute snow lover and will always be probably the first one out in it. This painting took shape as I reminisced over all the times my kids or myself if I am to be honest would just stare out the window in aw of the snow. It truly is magical and mesmerizing to watch. When I look at this painting it gives me good memories and brings me to a peaceful time.
Then I switched back to my other medium I enjoy using acrylic on wood tiles. When I am making these I still am wanting to paint things that make me smile and give me some nostalgic feelings but I do them in a little looser style with just a paintbrush. Sometimes I might pencil in the basic outline for composition sake but most of the work is done with just the paintbrush. Here are the paintings I did in acrylic on wood tiles.
Like a said before we had a really bad snow/ice storm and our snow and ice has lasted about a month, so of course that has inspired several snow paintings.
“Yard Skating”
This one is titled “Yard Skating” because our entire yard became a solid sheet of ice. You could walk on top of what looked like just snow and make no footprints. This of course was quite dangerous and we really had to be careful on all our walkways and even just walking the dog in the yard to go potty. So I thought of this painting how you literally could skate in the yard. I saw online where several people literally did that! I know when I look at this painting in the future it’ll make me smile and remember that crazy storm that turned everything into an ice skating rink.
“Blue Cottage in the Snow”
Meanwhile while we had the epic snow/icemageddon my parents in New England just got a giant snowstorm of over a foot of snow. Since I absolutely adore their little blue Cape Cod in the snow I had to paint it because snow scenes make me smile. One of my New Years goals is to only create what makes me smile. Of course the little girl in the painting is me with my cute dog.
I recently got to visit my parents and it snowed then too, so I had lots of inspiration in photos I took of their house in the snow. I wished it had snowed a foot while I was there, that would have been amazing. I got to take lots of snow walks which I loved.
This last one I am going to show you is titled “Snow Much Fun.” This one was inspired by my New England trip to Cape Cod and I discovered this new neighborhood that had the cutest cranberry colored colonial. If I could move I would choose this house. It looks like it is from another time period. I knew I wanted to paint a scene that reminded me of good times where children couldn’t wait to get out into the fresh fallen snow to have so much fun. Building a snowman was always a must. I always smile when I see kids out in the snow having fun. It truly warms my heart.
The last three paintings I showed here that are acrylic on wood are currently available in my shop on here. What’s neat about painting on these wood tiles is that you could just prop it up anywhere, you don’t necessarily have to frame it. Since they are small at 6 by 6 inches, they can squeeze in anywhere. If you are interested in buying an original from me just head to my shop. If you are interested in the other two as a print just shoot me an email and I will discuss a price.
Which one of these paintings are your favorite? Do any of them make you smile? Do any of them bring out that nostalgic feeling?
